Patchwork
11/06/2022
Thanks, grandma! I'll use it everyday.

Patchwork is a polyomino quilt puzzle game in which players have few actions, but numerous choices (sounds familiar to some other article). Uwe Rosenberg is just a trusted name in the board game space that I no longer hesitate when picking up one of his games; just snap keep always. Patchwork is no exception to this rule, but I did think a bit more than usual only because it is stritcly a two player game. However, since me and the lady need quick games to play not only set-up and teardown, but actual gameplay this really went a long way in my decision to buy. I'm glad I did too, as it made such an impression that I also picked it up on Steam so I could play anywhere my Steam Deck and I go. The A.I. in this electronic version is nothing to scoff at either. Medium opponents are pretty tough and really give you a run for the money. If playing against the machine is not your speed you can also play locally with friends and family or over the interwebs with anyone. With my playthrough clocking in at under thirty minutes, you can fit so many games in to a game night or quite possibly a night out at the bar with buddies...making quilts...like real men.

The two actions:

A: move your game piece one space or one space infront of your opponents game piece netting buttons in the amount of spaces moved.
B: buy a patch piece, sew it to your quilt and move your game piece based on the number shown on that quilt piece.

That's it! Just two whole actions and the game is in full swing. It's crazy to think how a game with very little to do can escalate to so many decisions. Makes you wonder how big games like Agricola and other analysis paralysis games come about. My brain hurts just thinking about it.

Playthrough:

The game takes up shelf space about the same size as a Stephen King novel.
